I'm William Everhart, and I'm running to end the cycle of inaction and bring a new standard of Elite Capability, Integrity, and Action to our county. As a dedicated family man and a long-time Southeast Colorado resident, I understand the critical need to address the drug problems, mental health crises, and lack of consistent law enforcement that plague our community. My professional background is uniquely suited for this challenge: I am a proven businessman and CEO, an experienced law enforcement Supervisor and Detective, and a highly trained tactical officer with SWAT experience. Crucially, I am a certified Use of Force Expert who has held over 20 Use of Force and de-escalation-related instructor certifications. I have the management skills to fix the internal failures—like the evidence backlogs and staffing shortages—and the leadership ability to build strong, cooperative forces with the Walsenburg Police Department and the La Veta Marshals. Furthermore, as the Sheriff also serves as the County Fire Warden, I bring more than ten years of experience and training as a Firefighter and Fire Lieutenant to protect our land and residents from fire danger.
