My name is William Everhart, but please, call me Will.

I’m not a stranger. I’ve been in Southeast Colorado for a long time. I’ve been a businessman. I’ve worked on ranches and farms. I’ve hiked the trails and ridden the ATVs.

And I’ve served. I’ve been a law enforcement officer, holding roles as Chief of Police, Sergeant, and Detective. I’ve fought fire on the Plains as a fire lieutenant and firefighter.

But most importantly, I’ve lived. I’ve struggled, I’ve fallen, and I’ve failed. I’ve had highs and I’ve had lows. Just. Like. You. We are all people, and we all deserve to be safe.

The Problem We All See

Let's be honest. Huerfano County has been seriously lacking a proper, effective law enforcement presence for far too long. If you feel like you've heard this before, you're not wrong.

But this isn't a normal problem. This is a total lack of action from the current administration. It has emboldened a criminal element that preys on the good citizens of this county.

Stop and ask yourself why. How did it come to this?

The answer is easy. They didn't care. I do.

When I started with the Walsenburg Police Department at its inception in January 2025, I immediately saw the failures of the county’s leadership. I heard the outright finger-pointing, the accusations of total inaction—some of them even criminal.

Why was it tolerated? Well, I don’t know. You’ve probably lived here longer than me. But I have deep roots in southeast Colorado, and I’ve known about the issues in Huerfano County for years. Now, I’m here to face them with you.

My Record: I Build Things from Scratch

My vision is simple: safer people, safer homes, and safer communities. I have a proven record of doing just that.

• As a member of the Walsenburg PD, I helped create and build a department from scratch.

• As a Chief of Police, I built a department from scratch.

• As a businessman, I built multiple companies from scratch.

The presence of the Walsenburg PD has been felt, and people are seeing a difference. But the police department's resources are limited to the city. That is not enough.

My Plan as Your Sheriff

As Sheriff, I will work to make all of Huerfano County safer.

My administration will be built on partnership. We will work with the Walsenburg Police Department and the La Veta Marshal Office to help them in their mission.

My years as a firefighter and fire lieutenant give me the frontline experience to partner with The Huerfano County, Gardner, La Veta, and Upper Huerfano Fire districts. We will work together to keep our county safe from the constant danger of fire.

What I’m saying is this: We have a small, beautiful community. As a police officer, I’ve seen how division holds us back. Imagine what we could achieve if we worked together to tackle the issues that actually matter—cleaning up our streets and finding solutions for homelessness and addiction.

This community needs unity. Let's start treating each other like neighbors.
